Oldways Whole Grains Council Celebrates Whole Grains Month with Daily Deals, $500 Contest

BOSTON, August 28, 2018 – September is Whole Grains Month, and the Oldways Whole Grains Council invites people everywhere to join the celebration with two major promotions.Throughout the month, Whole Grains Council member companies, including Bob’s Red Mill and Lotus Foods, will feature whole grain “Deal of the Day”offerings, and consumers can enter an Instagram contest for a chance to win a $500 gift card.

“The energy and curiosity that Whole Grains Month inspires brings together long-time whole grain enthusiasts, as well as those just starting their whole grain journey,” said Caroline Sluyter, Program Director, Whole Grains Council. “Here at the Whole Grains Council, we’re always looking for fun ways to encourage consumers to expand their horizons and try new grains, which is why we’re partnering with our member companies to offer special deals on whole grain products. If you’ve been looking for an excuse to try freekeh, teff, or sorghum, this is the chance you’ve been waiting for!”

Additional participating companies include Berlin Natural Bakery, Grainful, Ralston Family Farms, Mockmill, Freekehlicious, Popsalot, Homefree, InHarvest, Catallia Mexican Foods, Bio-Familia, Good Citizens, Ozery Bakery, To Your Health Sprouted Flour Co., and The Teff Company. Promotions will range from social media giveaways, to online discount codes, to recipe contests. Details will be updated daily on the Whole Grains Council website.

On Instagram, users can enter for a chance to win a $500 gift card by following the @Oldways_pt account and using the hashtag #SpotWholeGrains when posting photos of whole grain dishes they enjoy, whether prepared at home, ordered at restaurants, or served at parties. Complete contest rules are available online

Other ways for consumers and health professionals to celebrate include taking a “Guess the Grains” quiz, cooking recipes from the Whole Grains Around the World menu-plan book, downloading free educational handouts, and hosting awhole grain trivia contest  or whole grain grocery store tour. The Whole Grains Council will also unveil a brand new poster that explains how to identify whole grains and the Whole Grain Stamp.

As a nonprofit consumer advocacy group working to increase consumption of whole grains for better health, the Whole Grains Council established September as Whole Grains Month in 2007 to shine a spotlight on and encourage enjoyment of whole grains in fun ways. Studies continue to show that eating whole grains instead of refined grains lowers the risk of many chronic diseases, including high blood pressure, diabetes, and cancer.
