Grilled Lamb Gyro Burger

Gyro loaves are the Greek equivalent of meatloaf. They are typically made from very finely ground meat, garlic, onions, and herbs, sliced thinly and served with salad and/or pita bread. In this recipe, the loaf is formed into patties and used as a burger substitute. Find Gyro loaves in the frozen foods section of the grocery store.

Ingredients

4 ounces raw Gyro loaf meat, thawed and portioned into 2 2-ounce patties*

4 mini naan flatbread or pita, preferably whole grain

Olive oil, for grill and naan bread

2 tablespoons tzatziki sauce

1 small red onion, thinly sliced

1 large tomato, sliced

1 small bunch of fresh green leaf lettuce, washed and separated into pieces

Instructions

  1. Preheat grill to medium heat. Grill burgers for about 10 minutes total, turning halfway through.
  2. Brush naan bread with olive oil and toast until browned on both sides.
  3. To serve, top naan bread with patty, 1 tablespoon of tzatziki sauce, red onion, tomato, and lettuce. Repeat for the second burger. Serve with a tossed side salad and enjoy!

*Can substitute cooked Gyro if raw is not available. Instead of cooking on the grill, warm until heated through.
