These delectable steamed pork buns are a popular street food in China and a wonderful addition to your table any time of the year. These savory delicacies take a little work, but they’re absolutely worth it.
1 cup warm water (110°F)
4 teaspoons sugar, divided
1/2 teaspoon active dry yeast
1 cup whole wheat flour
3/4 cup unbleached all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons sesame oil
2 green onions, minced
1 teaspoon minced ginger
1 1/2 teaspoons minced garlic
1 pound ground pork
1 tablespoon low-sodium soy sauce
1 tablespoon black vinegar
Sesame seeds and sliced green onions, for garnish
