Andalusia, Spain: Granada & Sevilla, Spain

Andalusia is known as a region of olive oil, sherry, flamenco, festivals, tapas, and incredible historic and cultural landmarks. Based in the heart of both Granada and Sevilla, close to the major cathedrals in both cities, we made the most of the history and art of each place—learning how they shaped the culinary and cultural highlights of the region and these two iconic cities.

Trip Highlights:

Chef Host:  Deborah Hansen of Taberna de Haro, Boston, MA

Expert Host:  Ronni Baer, Curator, Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, MA

  • Guided tapas & wine tasting with Chef Deborah Hansen followed by dinner in the chapel of the 16th-century convent at the Hotel Palacio Santa Paula
  • Guided tour of the Alhambra, followed by a traditional lunch at the Parador de Granada
  • Evening tapas tour in Granada  — divided into smaller groups, each with a tapas guide
  • Visit to the Mercado de San Agustin and guided tour of Granada’s Cathedral, featuring Ronni Baer’s art tour of the Royal Chapel of Granada
  • Early evening cooking demo with Chef Deborah Hansen and Spanish chefs, followed by dinner
  • Visit to a goat cheese farm and olive oil producer outside Granada, followed by a very special farm lunch
  • Flamenco evening with tapas before and after
  • Guided cultural tour of Sevilla’s Cathedral and Alcazar, followed by Ronni Baer’s lecture on Velazquez, Murillo, and Zurbaran
  • Carriage ride to cooking class at a restaurant in the Maria Luisa Jardin
  • Hands-on cooking class and dinner  — everyone cooks!
  • Visit to an organic olive oil producer Alcubilla at Castro del Rio and wine producer Alvear at Montilla and lunch in the wine cellar
  • Options for final day included (1) Hands-on cooking class; (2) Flamenco dance lesson or (3) Travel to Cordoba by AVE for a cultural day tour
  • Many exciting meals in restaurants, hotels, farms, and wineries
