Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with A Taste of Latin American Heritage!

About this class

A Taste of Latin American Heritage is a bilingual (English-Spanish) 6-week cooking and nutrition curriculum that celebrates the healthy, vibrant, plant-based food traditions from across Latin America. Featured regions include Mexico, South America, Central America, and the Caribbean. Participants expand their knowledge of nutrition and learn simple cooking techniques for healthy living based on delicious Latin American food traditions.

Class Details & Lesson Plan

Class Details

Class schedule: 1 class per week, for 6 weeks

Number of recipes per class: 2–3

Class components: Each class is divided up into 1) an intro, 2) an historical and nutritional discussion, 3) a cooking lesson, and 4) a time to eat together and reflect.

Languages: Bilingual (all pages are in both English and Spanish)

Steps to teach this class

Thank you for your interest in teaching Oldways’ A Taste of Heritage cooking programs! Please note that while we ask for credentials, teachers are not required to have a professional degree. A strong interest and passion for teaching the curriculum, and also a willingness to help Oldways monitor success, are the key elements.

A Taste of Latin American Heritage Webinar

In this session, Sara Baer-Sinnott (President, Oldways), Hannia Campos, PhD (Visiting Scientist, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health), and Sylvia Klinger, DBA, MS, RD, LDN, CPT (founder, Hispanic Food Communications) explore nutrition and health disparities in Latin American Communities, as well as highlight the healthy food traditions of Latin America. This webinar also serves as a great primer for those interested in teaching Oldways’ A Taste of Latin American Heritage cooking and nutrition classes, as well as anyone passionate about reducing health inequities. Step 4: Download your certificate.

Download Oldways’ Certificate of Completion for this course. We can also mail the certificate to you after you have confirmed logistical details with us for teaching a class series.

Step 5: License our course curriculum.
Option 1: Licensing a PDF of the Curriculum

Organizations interested in teaching A Taste of Latin American Heritage can license the curriculum on an annual basis, which will allow the licensee to download a PDF version of the curriculum and related resources.

  1. Standard Single-Site License: For community health centers, SNAP-Ed providers, and other local organizations/small businesses. $300 per year per program
  2. Multi-Site License: For larger national organizations, or organizations with multiple sites.

Option 2: Purchasing Printed Copies of the Curriculum

Alternatively, organizations can purchase the printed teacher’s manual ($34.99) and student handbooks ($249.99 for a bundle of 15) in our webstore with or without a license. Please note that photocopying the printed curriculum is a violation of the copyright. The minimum order of student handbooks is 15. Classes are also encouraged to purchase the Latin American Heritage Pyramid Poster ($19.99) to display in the class, and purchase the trifold brochures ($39.99 for 100).
