Ingredients

6 cups of stale or older bread (preferably whole grain), cut into ¾” cubes

¼ cup extra virgin olive oil

5 cloves garlic

2 teaspoons crushed red pepper

1 teaspoon sea salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F.
  2. Place olive oil in a large bowl and crush garlic cloves into it. Stir to combine.
  3. Stir in the bread cubes, using a wooden spoon to coat all with the garlic-oil mixture. Sprinkle over crushed red pepper flakes and sea salt, stirring gently to distribute.
  4. Spread out on a parchment-lined baking sheet (make sure they aren’t crowded, or they won’t get brown) and bake until browned to your liking.
  5. Cool completely and use to top your favorite salads or soups. Croutons will keep for 1 week in a sealed container.
