The Mediterranean Table Challenge: We Saved You a Seat

Each May, in celebration of  International Mediterranean Diet Month, we shine an extra spotlight on the vibrant flavors and accessible, aordable and sustainable foods of the Mediterranean Diet. Learn all the fun ways you can celebrate with us and participate below:

WAYS TO JOIN OUR 2026 CELEBRATION!

#1 Participate in The Mediterranean Table Challenge

The Mediterranean Table Challenge

This year, we’re inviting you to pull up a chair and join our Mediterranean Table Challenge. Throughout the month of May, we’ll be asking you to participate in a variety of activities that will help you to rediscover the old ways of traditional eating by stepping into the Mediterranean Diet lifestyle. From trying new ingredients and recipes to learning more about the nutritional, emotional and environmental benefits of the Mediterranean Diet, our hope is that you find inspiration, joy, appreciation and nourishment.

Each week, a challenge participant will have a chance to win a $100 cash prize — one of four that we’ll be giving away!

We invite you to follow us on social media so you can keep up with the challenge and learn about fresh recipes, cooking tips, upcoming events and more!

The contest begins on May 1, 2026. Enter here

#2 Follow the 4-Week Meal Plan

the 4-Week Meal Plan

If challenges aren’t your thing, there are still fun and engaging ways to celebrate! Cook your way through our delicious Make Everyday Mediterranean 4-Week Meal Plan book to build on habits of healthy and flavorful eating. Plus, you won’t have to do it alone – there is a whole community waiting to share in the joys of Mediterranean cuisine with you! Here’s how to participate:

  • Get your copy of the Make Every Day Mediterranean 4-Week Menu Plan book.
  • Join our vibrant private Facebook group for followers of the Mediterranean Diet.
  • On May 1, begin cooking through the daily meal plan and share updates in the lively Facebook group, if you feel inclined! Stay connected, post your progress, and receive bonus tips and support all month long.

#3 Bring the Mediterranean Diet to Your Community

Already an avid Mediterranean Diet follower? Want to share your knowledge and passion with your community? We have two new resources to help you do just that!

One way to bring the Mediterranean Diet to your community is with our new curriculum, A Taste of the Mediterranean (ATOTM), which is a six-lesson nutrition and cooking program that brings the Mediterranean Diet pyramid to life. Most programs run over the course of six weeks, offering one class per week. Participants explore the major food groups of the Pyramid while learning healthy eating habits with simple, delicious recipes based in the foods and flavors of the Mediterranean Diet.

Another way to bring the Mediterranean Diet to your community is to utilize our Mediterranean Diet Cooking Demo Kit. If you’d like to talk about the Mediterranean Diet at a health fair, host a Mediterranean cooking demonstration, drum up participation for A Taste of the Mediterranean cooking and nutrition series, or plan an event to celebrate International Mediterranean Diet Month, this demo kit is for you!

#4 Explore Other Heritage Diets

Did you know that heritage diets are more alike than different? If you are loving the Mediterranean way of eating, check out the Asian Heritage Diet, African Heritage Diet and Latin American Heritage Diet.

Although culturally diverse in their recipes, flavor pairings, and ingredients, nearly all traditional diets are centered on a foundation of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, pulses, nuts, seeds, herbs, spices, and other plant foods. Meat, seafood and traditionally produced dairy products (like yogurt and cheese) were often used as a garnish, while cooking fats, such as olive oil, were used to dress up vegetables and other nutritious ingredients. Refined sweets, like cakes and pastries, were reserved for special occasions, not everyday indulgences. Subscribe to our Heritage Diets newsletter, Fresh Fridays for nutrition info and recipes in your inbox every other week!

No matter what you decide to do to celebrate International Mediterranean Diet Month, share it with us by tagging us on Instagram @oldways_pt , and keep an eye out on Facebook, Instagram, Threads, and Tiktok for Med Month content all May long!
