On our trips, you don’t just get to taste a fabulous meal—you get the recipes and knowledge to bring these ”old ways” home with you. And in between all the excitement, you’ll have time to shop or take a siesta, and then relax in luxurious hotels at the end of the day!

AT A GLANCE

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 18

Arrival and check-in at the Shangri-la Bangkok. In the evening, meet Sharon Palmer, the Oldways staff, and your fellow travelers at a welcome reception and dinner.

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 19

After a breakfast buffet by the Chao Phraya River, get acquainted with Bangkok with a cruise on the river and guided tour of Bangkok’s major sites. After a vegetarian lunch, take time to rest or tour on your own before a visit to the Night Market.  

 

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 20

After breakfast we’ll take tuk-tuks to Chinatown, and then visit a farmer’s market and the floating market. In the evening, we’ll have a plant-based Thai cooking class, which will turn into our dinner.

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 21

This is our travel day, flying as a group from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. We’ll check in at the Shangri-la Chiang Mai and have time for relaxing and exploring on own, before dinner at a plant-based restaurant in Chiang Mai.

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 22

We’ll spend the day cooking and learning together at the Thai Farm Cooking School, including a visit to a farmer’s market. In the evening, you’ll be free to explore Chiang Mai’s restaurants on your own.

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 23

Elephants!  We’ll spend the day at the nearby Elephant Nature Park, where we’ll also have a vegetarian lunch. We’ll enjoy dinner together in Chiang Mai in the evening.

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 24

For our last day in Chiang Mai, we’ll go out into the country to visit farms. The afternoon is free for shopping and packing, and we’ll end our week with a glorious plant-based Gala Dinner.

Shangri-la Bangkok Nestled along the large riverfront setting, the 5-star Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok is a lovely riverside retreat in the heart of a vibrant city. With direct access to the SkyTrain, public ferries terminal and buses, the hotel is a lovely gateway to explore and discover Bangkok.

Our rooms are Deluxe rooms, with city and partial views of the Chao Phraya River. If you choose to upgrade, you can choose between a Deluxe River View Room (additional $20/night) or a Deluxe Balcony Room (an additional $40/night), both with views of the Chao Phraya River.

Located in Chiang Mai’s Chang Khlan neighborhood, the 5-star Shangri-La Chiang Mai is in the city center, a 10-minute walk to the Night Market and a 20-minute walk to the Old City.  

Our rooms in Chiang Mai are also Deluxe Rooms.  We will post information about upgrades.

Our plant-based tour is led by Oldways and Cookbook Author and Plant-Powered Dietitian Sharon Palmer. Sharon Palmer, RD has created an award-winning career based on combining her two great loves: food and writing. As a registered dietitian with a broad foundation in health care, she has channeled her passion into journalism over the past 15 years, covering a variety of topics, such as health, wellness, nutrition, and cooking. Plant-based cooking and eating is her life and passion, and so who better to learn about plant-based Thai cuisine?
