Nikos Scarmeas, MD, MSC

Assistant Professor of Neurology, Columbia University Medical Center

Nikos was born and raised in Athens, Greece. He earned an MD from the University of Athens before moving to the U.S. for neurology and residency training and then a clinical fellowship in aging and dementia at Columbia University Medical Center. He also completed a Masters degree is biostatistics – epidemiology at the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University. In 2002, he began working as an assistant professor of neurology at Columbia University Medical Center, and splits his time between clinical work and research. He is the author of several studies that suggest that a Mediterranean Diet may help people with Alzheimer’s disease live longer than patients who eat a more traditional Western diet.
