Kathy McManus, MS, RD, LDN


Director, Department of Nutrition; Director, Dietetic Internship, Brigham and Women’s Hospital

Kathy McManus is Director of the Department of Nutrition and Director of the Dietetic Internship at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, a teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School in Boston. In addition, she serves as the Director for Nutrition Services at Dana Farber Cancer Institute

Kathy has been involved with several research trials during her years at the Brigham including: serving as a Co-Investigator on the NIH funded obesity study, POUNDS (Preventing Overweight Using Novel Dietary Strategies) Lost. She also was the Manager of the Nutrition component for the Harvard Atherosclerosis Reversibility Study and the Director of the Nutrition program for the Cholesterol and Recurrent Events Trial. Kathy has presented her research nationally and internationally including China, Japan, Crete, Germany, Italy, Mexico, South America, the United Kingdom, Jordan, Rwanda, and Bangladesh.

Kathy has recently been involved in 2 research studies: GoFresh-to determine the effectiveness of RD assisted, virtually ordered, home delivered DASH groceries on SBP among Black adults in Boston with elevated BP or untreated stage 1 HTN and 2. and a PCORI funded study focused on implementation of obesity treatment in primary and specialty care settings.

Kathy has authored more than 25 publications and book chapters including a chapter in the fourth edition of Cardiovascular Therapeutics. She was a co-author on an article published in the New England Journal of Medicine for her work on the Pounds Lost Trial.
