Josiemer Mattei, PhD, MPH
Donald and Sue Pritzker Associate Professor of Nutrition, Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health
Dr. Mattei is the Donald and Sue Pritzker Associate Professor of Nutrition at the Department of Nutrition, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. She investigates dietary, sociocultural, environmental, and metabolic determinants of cardiometabolic diseases in racial/ethnic groups and underserved populations, as a framework to explain health disparities, with a focus on Hispanics/Latinos. Dr. Mattei combines observational research with community and clinical interventions, both through original studies and collaborations in the United States, Puerto Rico, and Latin America. She leads the first island-wide longitudinal cohort of chronic diseases among adults in Puerto Rico, named PROSPECT; a clinical trial adapting evidence-based diets with cultural and sustainable practices for Puerto Ricans; and ethnic-specific studies for diet and health among US-residing Latinos. She leads public health efforts towards equity-based healthy food access as a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Culture of Health Leader and has received multiple accolades for her body of work and her mentoring. Her ultimate goal is to help Latinos and minority and underserved populations eat healthier and be healthy.
