Chef, Cuisine and Culture Expert, and Educator

Amy Riolo is a graduate of Cornell University based in Washington, DC. As an award-winning author, chef, television personality, cuisine and culture expert, and educator, Amy Riolo makes frequent television and radio appearances in the United States and abroad. She creates and appears weekly in 90-second cooking videos entitled “Culture of Cuisine,” which air on nationally syndicated news shows on 28 channels across the United States, with a reach of over 300 million viewers. Her work has also appeared in print media including USA TodayCooking LightThe Washington PostCNN.comThe Wall Street JournalGulf NewsPopular Anthropology MagazineThe UAE National, and international newspapers and blogs.

Amy maintains the culinary/cultural blog and has written The Mediterranean Diabetes Cookbook (American Diabetes Association, 2010), Nile Style: Egyptian Cuisine and Culture (Hippocrene Books, 2009 and 2011), and Arabian Delights: Recipes & Princely Entertaining Ideas from the Arabian Peninsula (Capital Books, 2007). She has also contributed to The Food Cultures of the World Encyclopedia and co-wrote The Al Tiramisu Restaurant Cookbook: An Elevated Approach to Authentic Italian Cuisine with Chef Luigi Diotaiuti. She is currently working on her next cookbook entitled The Ultimate Mediterranean Diet Cookbook.

Amy frequently lectures and gives demonstrations on diabetes-friendly eating, and cuisine and culture at medical conferences, universities, museums, culinary symposiums, and for various non-profit organizations.

She is a member of The International Association of Culinary Professionals, Cornell Club DC, Les Dames d’Escoffier (Global Culinary Initiative), Slow Food DC, and the Culinary Historians of Washington. She teaches approximately 80 cooking classes per year in the United States, Italy, Egypt, and UAE. Additionally, Amy consults for restaurants, as well as movies and television programs and leads international culinary travel.
