Dr. Garaulet Aza is a Professor of Physiology and Nutrition in the Department of Physiology at the University of Murcia, Spain, where she is the director of the Obesity Research group. She holds a Master’s in Public Health from Harvard University and is currently a visiting professor in the Department of Sleep Medicine at Harvard Medical School and in the Department of Nutrition and Genomics at Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts. She has advised 15 doctoral theses, and published more than 100 papers in different high impact journals. In her research she has been interested in the relationship between chronobiology, obesity, and weight loss in the context of a Mediterranean Diet. Moreover, Dr. Garaulet’s recent research focuses on methods to improve the effectiveness in the dietary treatment of obesity using current techniques in chronobiology. She has recently received two relevant awards: the European Award in Endocrinology and Obesity awarded by the “Nutrition and Santé” in 2011 and the Dr. Gregorio Marañón Award for Best Researcher in Nutrition in Spain from the Spanish Academy of Gastronomy and Nutrition in 2012.
