International Mediterranean Diet Month
We hope you enjoy the Mediterranean Diet 12 months of the year. That said, each year in May we shine an extra spotlight on the fabulous flavors and accessible, affordable foods that make up this remarkable way of eating.
This month-long promotional campaign, created in 2009 by Oldways and the Mediterranean Foods Alliance, generates awareness of the delicious foods and wide-ranging health benefits associated with the Mediterranean Diet and its vibrant lifestyle through media, supermarkets, health professionals and social networking. We hope you’ll be part of our Mediterranean Diet Month celebrations in 2015!
Here's What's On Tap for 2015
Supermarket Sampling. A large number of supermarkets across the U.S. have hired registered dietitians to help shoppers understand the links between good food and good health. Oldways and the MFA are putting the finishing touches on a special kit of resources for supermarket RDs, and inviting as many stores as possible to plan Mediterranean events during May. Look for an olive oil tasting, a cheese tasting, a cooking demo, a food sampling, or some other enjoyable and educational event taking place in a store near you!
Mediterranean Diet Toolkit. Our ONE (Oldways Nutrition Exchange) program posts "Toolkits" of useful resources for health professionals to use in educating others -- or for anyone wanting to learn on their own. Our "Shop and Taste the Med Diet" Toolkit contains everything you need to create a Med Month event at your workplace, from a PowerPoint and handouts to research and cooking demo scripts. Social Media Giveaways. Throughout the month of May, Oldways will be giving away our Oldways 4-Week Mediterranean Diet Menu Plan, Med Diet posters, and other freebies on Facebook and Twitter. Make sure to stay in the loop and join the fun.
Special Blogs. Our blog, the Oldways Table, will feature special Mediterranean posts during May.
Mediterranean Month Calendar. Take our Med Month challenge! Download our calendar of tips and ideas for every day of the month, to inspire you to take a step a day toward a healthier way of eating.
