The goal of our newletter is to get you dancing in your kitchen and singing in your grocery aisles. Each edition will share new African Heritage & Health program updates, recipes, health studies, and a celebration of the healthy, delicious foods of African heritage. To put the African Heritage Diet Pyramid on the plate, we have compiled a group of 12 Plates of Expression with the help of African Heritage culinary scholar Jessica Harris. These dishes are both the culinary expressions of the Pyramid and the cultural expressions of each of the four distinct regions of African Heritage.
OASIS (Oldways Africana Soup In Stories) is a celebratory anthology of culturally-informed soup recipes that seeks to foster and expand conversation about nutritional knowledge and Black women’s wellness. In this sampler of 20 stories from cooks, chefs, researchers, storytellers, foodies, farmers, nutritionists, historians, activists, food blogger, and wellness workers, Dr. Stephanie Evans of Clark Atlanta University and the Oldways African Heritage & Health leadership team present personal vignettes and recipes that explore identity, geography, health, and self-care from across the African Diaspora.
