Free Resources for Consumers, Health Professionals
and Food Companies

BOSTON, June 1, 2012 — Using new ways to promote the old ways of cooking and eating, the food and nutrition nonprofit Oldways (www.oldwayspt.org) has unveiled a totally new and revamped web site.  The new site provides increased access to the internationally respected organization’s 20 years of experience and resources guiding people to good health through heritage.

“Each year, traffic to the Oldways’ site increases significantly as more consumers and health professionals discover the power of reconnecting to the traditional ways of their ancestors to eat and live better,” said Sara Baer-Sinnott, president of Oldways. “We have structured our new Health Through Heritage-themed site to ensure our practical and science-based resources, from recipes to health tips, are easy to find and use.”

The colorful, inviting new web site is full of enticing food and travel photography, reminding visitors first and foremost that eating well is a pleasurable activity rather than a clinical duty.  It showcases Oldways’ six main programs related to major health initiatives:  Mediterranean Diet/Mediterranean Foods Alliance, Whole Grains Council, African Heritage & Health, Oldways Nutrition Exchange, Culinary Travel and Custom Programs.

Visitors will find a wealth of free tools and resources to help connect to their own heritage (or another that intrigues them!) and bring healthful enjoyment of real food to the table, including:

  • Oldways’ five traditional diet pyramids (Mediterranean, Latin American, Asian, African Heritage and Vegetarian)
  • Recipes
  • Shopping lists
  • Pantry item checklists
  • Scientific studies
  • Culinary & Scientific Conference presentations/materials
  • Calendar of upcoming events including popular Culinaria trips
  • And much more!

These materials, some of which are also available in Spanish, are aimed largely at consumers and health professionals, but also include resources to support food companies interested in manufacturing and marketing healthier foods.

The Oldways webstore provides easy access to quantities of brochures, and beautiful posters of the Oldways’ Health through Heritage food pyramids, as well as other affordable and effective materials to promote good health. Oldways also provides an online bookstore with recommended reading. Visitors can also make a donation online to support Oldways’ (501c3) educational efforts.
