Last week, Sara T (Project and Events Manager, Dorchester Connoisseur and Resident), Erika (Executive and Program Assistant, Lover of Soups) and myself went to Tavolo, an Italian restaurant owned by Chef Chris Douglass in Dorchester, MA. In here, they lovingly follow the Mediterranean Diet and dishes feature locally grown ingredients.
Red wine is usually preferred if you’re living the Mediterranean lifestyle, but Limoncello isn’t too oﬀ-the-mark. I ﬁrst tried it when I was studying abroad in Salerno, a small town in Italy oﬀ the Amalﬁ Coast, and quickly became a fan. Limoncello is a lemon liqueur made from lemon zest, alcohol, sugar, and water. It’s usually served in small, chilled glasses as an after-dinner digestivo to calm your stomach down after multiple plates of food. It has now become a popular feature in most restaurants and liquor stores around the world.
First Course: Marinated Olives & Roasted Garlic
Olives are a great source of Vitamin E, ﬁght oﬀ heart disease, and support gastrointestinal heath. They are also delicious! As for garlic, there is a great article in the New York Times about their beneﬁts (Unlocking the Beneﬁts of Garlic).
And now on to the main courses!
Beet Salad w/ watercress, endive, gorgonzola, & pear
Asparagus w/ prosciutto, fried egg, greens and lemon vinaigrette
Mushroom Pizza with cremini, taleggio, rosemary
