“How Med is Your Diet?” Take Oldways’ Quiz for Mediterranean Diet Month

Raise Your Score with These Mediterranean Diet Resources

BOSTON, April 21, 2016 – Despite the lure of glitzy fad diets, one centuries-old approach to eating and living still tops the charts when it comes to good health and great taste: the Mediterranean Diet.

To celebrate International Mediterranean Diet Month in May, the nonprofit Oldways, creator of the Mediterranean Diet Pyramid, launches the “How Mediterranean is Your Diet?” quiz. See how the foods you normally eat stack up against the gold-standard Med Diet, and what delicious staples of the Med you’re missing. Take the quiz here.

Quiz takers receive a free 7-Day Spring Mediterranean Menu download, and are entered to win a $150 gift card, Mediterranean products including Mediterra bars, Bella Sun Luci sun dried tomatoes, Divina Extra Virgin Olive Oil and an olive oil decanter from FOODMatch, walnuts from the California Walnut Board, and a copy of the Oldways 4-Week Mediterranean Diet Menu Plan Book.

No matter your score, you may want some Med inspiration. Oldways has curated a list of ways people can discover and enjoy this celebrated lifestyle:

1.    Take a 28-day Mediterranean Journey. The Oldways 4-Week Mediterranean Diet Menu Plan Book leads you through the delicious and satisfying tastes of the Mediterranean Diet. Featuring a variety of foods that are naturally healthy and low in calories, the Med Diet proves you can enjoy “good taste” and “good for you” at the same time. Or for the Spark Notes, take a 7-day Med Diet journey.

2.    Read up on the Science. Hundreds of scientific studies show that people who closely follow a Mediterranean Diet get many health benefits, while enjoying wonderfully delicious foods. These benefits include everything from better heart and bone health and reduced risk of strokes and diabetes, to longer lifespan. We’ve got the resources to prove it.

3.    Save Money. Not only is the Mediterranean Diet healthy and bursting with regional flavors, but it’s extremely affordable. A 2015 study found that switching from an eating plan based on USDA MyPlate guidelines to a plant based diet with olive oil can save you nearly $750 per year.  In fact, for $2 you can prepare a variety of filling and nutritious Mediterranean meals, and the options are endless. Our recipe collection speaks for itself.

4.    Travel to Thessaloniki, Greece. Oldways is headed to Thessaloniki, Greece in November 2016 for an eight day cultural and culinary tour. What better way to explore this magnificent region of the Mediterranean than accompanied by James Beard award-winning chef Ana Sortun (of Oleana, Sarma, Sofra) and museum curator Ronni Baer? Oldways Culinarias sell out; reserve now.

For 25 years, Oldways has been dedicated to promoting the powerful health benefits, affordability, and delicious flavors found in traditional plant-based diets worldwide, including the Mediterranean Diet. For more, visit our Med Diet Month page here.
