Any time spent in Paris is special, but this last trip was especially meaningful for us.  Sara was in the City of Lights to present the Dun Gifford Mediterranean Cuisine Award as part of the 16th Annual Gourmand World Cookbook Awards.  The awards ceremony was held Thursday, March 3 at the famed Folies Bergère where more than 1,200 foodies from around the world gathered to honor the world’s best food and wine books from 2010. Last year, we were deeply touched when good friend and founder of the Gourmand Awards, Edouard Cointreau, told us his intention to name an award after Dun, Oldways founder and visionary who had recently passed away. So it was a great honor for Sara to present the award this week in Dun’s name to…drumroll, please!  Zouhair Ben Jemaa from Tunisia, author of Cuisiner Autrement. Zouhair, a talented chef with extensive international experience running hotels, was selected from a distinguished list of finalists from Germany, Tunisia, Spain and Turkey.  His cookbook is a summary of his mission to cook differently, thanks to Mediterranean fundamentals. We know Dun would be very pleased with the selection and offer Zouhair many congratulations.  And, many thanks to Edouard for this special tribute in Dun’s honor. À votre santé! — Oldways Staff
