Oldways and the Cheese of Choice Coalition participated in the Boston Fermentation Festival for lively conversations about making and enjoying traditional cheese.

CCC program manager Brad Jones facilitated the 10:15 — 11:00 am discussion while area cheesemakers and cheesemongers discussed how cheese is made, how speciality cheese should be properly tasted, and what sorts of other (fermented) beverages or condiments pair especially well. Extensive cheese tasting was involved! The presentation included tips for making cheese in your very own home, a fun-filled and delicious activity for all.

This absolutely free festival took place on Saturday, September 27th and headlined by author, speaker, and one of the world’s most renowned fermentation revivalists, Sandor Katz. The festival appealed to all levels of fermenting enthusiasts from novice to expert. In addition to the cheese panel, there was workshops by professional fermenting artisans, a kraut mob to learn the basics, a competitive pickle-doff with some of Boston’s most creative chefs, authors signed their fermentation-related books, and over a dozen local fermenting vendors were on hand to sample and sell their delicious fermented food and drink.
